Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has summoned an All-Party Meet on 24 April, a day before the second part of the budget session to try and strike a consensus between the government and opposition benches on the passage of many bills like the ones passed in the first half, as reported by Livemint.
Senior BJP leaders asserted that this meeting was crucial to ensure the smooth functioning of both the houses of parliament and the passage of many reform bills. Passage of the GST Bill is of particular importance.
Although the Congress has said it would not support any controversial legislation, the government has signalled it would try and push for the GST Bill.
Some ministers have already sought the support of Naveen Patnaik’s BJD when he was in Delhi last week for the passage of the GST Bill. The Samajwadi Party has promised its support to the bill.
