Uddhav Thackrey, the Shiv Sena chief, publicly apologised for the cartoon published in the party’s mouthpiece Saamna which mocked the Maratha silent protesters.
The cartoon also mocked the JNU students and tried to show the spread of dengue through martyred soldiers. People on social media reacted strongly to the cartoon, calling it “sick”.
A pro-Maratha organisation ‘Sambhaji Brigade’ had also attacked the paper’s office, post the publication of the caricature, as a complaint was also registered against Uddhav Thackeray.
The Maratha community held silent protests after the brutal gangrape and murder of a minor girl in Ahemadnagar last month.
