The CBI on Tuesday filed a charge sheet in a Mumbai court against Peter Mukerjea, arrested in connection with the Sheena Bora murder case. According to the CBI,
- Peter Mukerjea has been charged with destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy. He has been booked for murder.
- The role of Mumbai and Raigad police in the murder is being investigated.
- A third chargesheet is likely to be filed in the case.
- There is enough evidence to prove Peter’s involvement in all stages of planning of the murder.
- A private person has been named in the supplementary chargesheet.
- Testimony of a key witness, directly linked to Peter Mukerjea, reportedly submitted to the judge in a sealed envelope.
The agency filed the supplementary chargesheet in the case before the Additional Metropolitan Magistrate RV Adone.
Peter, whose wife Indrani Mukerjea is the prime accused in the case, was arrested on 19 November for his alleged role in the murder conspiracy. He was in CBI custody for two weeks.
His bail plea was rejected on 12 February by a special CBI court.
While Mukerjea is lodged in the Arthur Road prison in Mumbai, Indrani is in Byculla women’s jail. Others arrested in the case are Indrani’s ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai.
The trio was chargesheeted in the case after Sheena, Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, was allegedly strangled in a car in April 2012. Her body burnt was dumped in a forest in Raigad.
The CBI, which took over the probe from Mumbai police, suspects that financial transactions led to Sheena Bora’s murder.
The murder took place in 2012 but came to light late August last year.
