Samajwadi Party MLA Nahid Hasan has sought an independent inquiry into the alleged celebratory firing incident by party members in the Shamli area in Uttar Pradesh which killed an eight-year-old boy.
Hassan claimed that rival groups were conspiring against him, a day after he was booked along with his supporters for allegedly threatening media persons who had gone to cover the incident.
Two crew members of Times Now, who went to the spot for coverage of the tragedy, were allegedly attacked by Hasan and his aides.
He said he was not present at the scene when the media persons had visited the area.
According to Hasan, the Election Commission should share footage of the site where party supporters allegedly started firing in the air. They were celebrating their candidate’s victory in local polls on Sunday.
The MLA also claimed that the driver of the rickshaw the victim was travelling in, cannot be traced.
When asked about a show-cause notice to him from his party, Hasan, who convened a community panchayat over the firing issue, said he has not yet received any such notice.
UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, on Monday, instructed the DGP to arrest all those who were involved in the firing incident which killed an eight-year-old child.
