After being proposed in 2008, the Greenfield Paper Mill to be set up in Rahul Gandhi’s constituency, Amethi has been moved to Maharashtra. The project has been delayed due to land acquisition issues for over half a decade and was finally approved by the Manmohan Singh Cabinet in 2014.

The plant was to directly employ 900 people and provide indirect employment to many more. The Rs 3650 crore plant will now be moved to Ratnagiri in Maharashtra according to a report in the Times of India.

Union Heavy Industries Minister Anant Gete has proposed that the project be moved. He has currently asked other ministries including the finance ministry for comments, before passing on the proposal to the Cabinet for approval.
