  • Section 144 of the Code of Criminial Procedure (CrPC) has been imposed in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district in the wake of severe water crisis in the region.

  • Section 144 prohibits unlawful assembly of five or more people at a place, as severe water crisis has resulted in deterioration of the law and order situation in Betul.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on 10 May chaired a high-level meeting with the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan on drought and water scarcity in the state.
