Former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s “courage and simplicity” endeared him to everyone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.
In a message to mark the death anniversary of Shastri, Modi tweeted:
Shastri, who was prime minister from 9 June 1964 to 11 January 1966, died in Tashkent where he had gone to sign a peace pact in the wake of the 1965 India-Pakistan war.
