The Maharashtra Cabinet approved a new dance bar bill with certain checks and restrictions.
According to a NewsX report, the restrictions include that a dance bar cannot exist with a kilometer from school and place of worship, no alcohol in the bar room, and no vulgarity. The second draft of bill was issued after the first draft was struck down by the Supreme Court.
In February, the Supreme Court bench of Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Shiva Kirti Singh were critical of the first draft by Maharashtra government, as they said dance is an art and there was no need to impose conditions as long as nothing obscene was happening.
The Fadnavis government had then issued licences to four dance bars in Maharashtra and suspended four policemen for submitting false reports about the approval of dance bars.
