- The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday ordered a judicial probe into last week’s violence in Mathura in which 29 people, including two police officers, lost their lives. The probe will be conducted by a retired judge of Allahabad High Court and an inquiry committee has been asked to submit its report within two months.
- The enquiry committee has been asked to make suggestions that will help in ensuring that the ghastly events in Mathura do not repeat themselves.
- The violence which erupted last week claimed the lives of Superintendent of Police (City) Mukul Dwivedi and SHO Santosh Kumar.
Political parties have been demanding a judicial inquiry into the violence. BJP Member of Parliament from Mathura, Hema Malini, also demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident.
