Jat Leaders to Meet Government Amidst Tensed Atmosphere in Haryana

The Jat Quota stir is likely to get some important movement by Friday evening after a possible meeting between the Haryana Government and the Jat leaders. Sensing trouble, security has been tightened around the sensitive areas of the state since Thursday. The 72-hour deadline given by the Jat agitators ended on Thursday.

Internet services in Rohtak have been suspended as a precautionary measure, as protestors threaten to resume the agitation.

The Jat leaders had threatened to resume the agitation in case the BJP-led Haryana government does not meet their demands by March 17. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh while speaking to media said, “I have spoken to CM of Haryana, there is no need to worry about anything.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked Rajnath and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Khattar to ensure that the Jat agitation is not resumed and that there is no repeat of the last episode, which had claimed over 30 lives and caused extensive damage to the state.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) held marches on Thursday for communal harmony in Rohtak, which was the most affected area during this agitation.

A close aide of former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda was arrested on Thursday on grounds of inciting violence during the stir.
