Just a day after news broke that the National Investigative Agency (NIA) which is probing the Udhampur attack case, had received the court’s go-ahead to run a polygraph test on Naved, fresh reports suggest that a DNA match will now sought to be proven.

The NIA will be collecting a DNA sample from Mohammad Naved, the captured terrorist, and ask Islamabad to procure the DNA samples of his father and siblings in Faisalabad, Pakistan – according to a report in The Times of India.

The purpose, clearly, is to establish, beyond all reasonable doubt that the caught terrorist is indeed a Pakistani national. The TOI report hints at the possibility of a letdown on that front – since Pakistani agencies aren’t known to facilitate information on terrorists caught in India – but India still doesn’t want to miss this opportunity.

An intelligence officer, in fact, revealed, this to the paper:

Islamabad may, as usual, deny that the terrorist in question is a Pakistani national. But its refusal to match Naved’s DNA samples with those obtained from his immediate family, is set to weaken Pakistan’s case that the Udhampur attack did not originate from its territory

Polygraph Test to Take Place Today

Mohammed Naved Yakub will be subjected to a polygraph test today to nail the misleading statements he has made over the past 10 days about his Indian contacts and the route taken to infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir.

The DNA and voice samples of the alleged LeT operative, who was overpowered by the locals following the attack on a BSF bus in Udhampur district of Jammu on August five that left its two personnel dead, will also be obtained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

NIA sources said collecting the DNA samples of the militant from Faisalabad in Pakistan could help in proving his nationality. Islamabad has been insisting that Naved is not a Pakistani national.
