The disastrous Hajj stampede claimed 3 Indonesians, 3 Kenyans and 7 Pakistanis.
A top Pakistani hajj official Abu Ahmed Akif in Saudi Arabia said on Friday that 236 Pakistani pilgrims are missing. Egypt’s Religious Endowments Minister Mohammed Mokhtar Gomaa told the state-run MENA news agency the death toll for his country had risen to 14.
Iranian authorities say at least 131 of the country’s pilgrims were killed on Thursday, while 85 were injured. The high death toll has sparked off protests where thousands of Iranian worshippers marched in Tehran after Friday prayers to denounce the “incompetency” of Saudi Arabia in handling the annual hajj pilgrimage.
After the tragic stampede, Muslim pilgrims went ahead with the final rites of hajj.
