Proving that there is no bigger bond than humanity, a Muslim woman, Yakub Bi in a faith-restoring act, performed the last rites of an old Hindu man after his son disowned his duties, reports The Hindu.
On Tuesday night, K Srinivas, who worked for years as a tailor, breathed his last at age 70. At the time he was in the care of Yakub Bi, a woman caretaker at Sahrudaya old age home in Hanmakonda of Warangal district.
The old age home run by Yakub Bi and her husband served as a refuge for Srinivas after he was found at the Warangal bus stand, partially paralysed and left to beg for sustenance by his family.
After Srinivas’ death, Yakub Bi, reached out to Sharath, Mr Srinivas’s son, asking him to perform his father’s last rites. Shockingly though, the son refused. The reason he gave was his recent conversion to Christianity, a decision Srinivas did not approve of.
For Srinivas’ sake, Yakub Bi persisted, but to no avail. The son relented only enough to agree to take one last look at his dead father’s face, but still refused to conduct the last rites. So Yakub Bi and others took the body to the Sivamuktidham burial ground as per Hindu customs after going around the body thrice.

Although it is saddening to hear of an old man being left alone by his family, the fact that a Muslim woman came forward to perform the last rites of a Hindu man is something to take heart from.
