One Army jawan was killed in an encounter in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday evening.
A gunfight broke out between security forces and militants in the forest area of Bandipora at 4:45 pm, police said.
A joint team of army and police launched an anti-militancy operation in the Buthoo forests following information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.
Three militants are believed to be hiding in the area.
