The process for nursery admissions for the year 2018-19 kickstarted on Wednesday, 27 December, across over 1,500-plus unaided private recognised schools in Delhi.

To all the parents who are applying for nursery admission for their child in the national capital, here are the key dates to remember:

The Delhi nursery admission process began on 27 December and will end on 31 March 2018.

Admissions will be open for 75 percent of the seats, and the protracted process is expected to end on 31 March 2018. The remaining seats are reserved for economically weaker or disadvantaged students, and admissions for those seats will be conducted by the government centrally.

The deadline for submitting applications is 17 January, either online or physically at the school.

The schools will score each applicant by 8 February 2018.

The first merit list of accepted students will be out on 15 February, followed by a second merit list on 28 February 2018, and the final list (if any) would be released on 15 March.

The admissions will take place via a 100-point system, wherein schools decide on their different criteria and allot points. Criteria that are adopted by schools are:

  1. Location (the distance between the school and the child’s residence)
  2. Sibling (whether the child has a sibling enrolled in the same school)
  3. Alumni (whether the parents are alumni of the school)
  4. Girl child
  5. Single parent

Moreover, there is no upper-age limit that will be followed in the admission process this year.

A monitoring cell has also been constituted by the Directorate of Education so as to ensure redressal of parents' grievances. These grievances will be addressed from 1 to 7 March 2018.

The demand for admissions is expected to be high, and the seats far and few in between – according to an estimate posted last year, the number of applicants was four times higher than the 1.25 lakh seats available.
