Ahead of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly Polls, Modinomics is focused on creating more jobs, Bloomberg reported.

Prior to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sweeping victory in 2014, he promised jobs for the youth several times in the pre-elections campaigns. With Uttar Pradesh elections only a few months away, it’s time to reiterate those promises.

The discontent among Modi’s Hindu nationalist based vote bank seems to be rising over the slow pace of job creation since the past two years.

Harsh Pant, who is a professor of IR at King’s College, London, said if Modi doesn’t generate enough jobs, opposition parties will say that he has not done anything.

The last two years there’s been a mix of reforms and populism from the Modi government. You will see a mix of that in the coming months as well.

Meanwhile, corporate officials also share the views of academicians.

The government will carry on doing what’s politically expedient and what’s practically feasible. It’s not as if they are ideologically obsessed about reforms.
