Cyclone Vardah crossed the Chennai coast in Tamil Nadu, bringing with it strong winds.
Two people have died, says the Tamil Nadu government and close to 8000 people have been evacuated.
The city is bearing the brunt of nature’s fury. Several trees have fallen onto the roads. Many two wheelers have also fallen over, unable to withstand the fury of the winds. The Tamil Nadu government says thousands of people have been evacuated to 54 relief camps set up in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur and Villupuram districts.
