Mukesh Ambani has launched the Jio “intelligent” phone, which will offer life-long free voice calls bundled with 4G data streaming at an "effective price of zero".
The phone will be available for pre-booking from 24 August upon payment of a refundable security deposit of Rs 1,500. This deposit will be refunded after 36 months on the return of the phone, he said, adding that the price of the phone will be "effective zero".
Twitter was quick to celebrate the launch of the phone. Some users congratulated Ambani for “revolutionising internet in India.”
“Ambani is Killing the Telecom Industry.”
“Is it a Phone or a Dongle?”
Some felt sorry for Jio’s competitors.
