Speaking at an independent TED event in Mumbai, titled “Building Ideas for a Better World”, Minster of Railways, Suresh Prabhu summarized his formidable vision for the Indian Railways.
“We need to figure out how we move around,” he started off, emphasizing the need for upping the quality of services provided, in addition to increasing GDP as a vision for India. To this two-pronged end, he placed all his bets on Indian Railways to transform India as the “engine of growth”, and announced an investment of 142 billion dollars into the system for the next 5 years, during the recent Railway Budget.
He expounded on his vision for the Indian Railways by 2030: services and safety up to global benchmarks, an increase in employment, a shift to clean energy, and an increase in transparency and accountability by bringing all tenders, contracts, examinations and promotions on online platforms.
His talk was in alignment with his beliefs that he tweeted about: Policy is only good when it is implemented.
