Taxi and auto unions of Mumbai will meet Transport Minister Diwakar Roate on 1 September to discuss the regulation of cab aggregators like Ola and Uber.

While the taxi and auto unions are miffed with the aggregators for “stealing”their customers, Mumbaikar Dhruv Souran, has aptly responded as to why people prefer the latter over the former.

The scenario Souran describes is common to all our metros, with unionised-drivers refusing customers rides if they do not wish to go to a certain place – and then they protest that cabs be regulated.

Cabs and autos in cities are ultimately causing their own downfall by not even trying to serve their customers who ultimately end up eating out of the hands of cab-aggregators. Souran pointed out that if taxis and autos are losing business to cab aggregators, it really is their own fault.
