Facebook is about to make break-ups a lot more easier and smoother. Believe it or not, the social networking site is working towards reducing the chance of your ex popping up on your timeline, in any way.

The company recently announced that it is testing new tools on its mobile app in the US, to help users manage interactions with their former partners after a relationship ends. When people change their relationship status to indicate that they are no longer in a relationship, they will be prompted to try these tools.

Facebook’s Product Manager Kelly Winters states in an official blog post that these new additions will help one see less of one’s former partner’s name, profile picture and updates without having to unfriend or block them. Your ex’s posts won’t show up in your news feed and his/her name wouldn’t come up while tagging photographs or sending messages to others.

The new features will also curb your updates from being displayed on your ex’s timeline. Though these tools are optional, mobile users in the US can try them out already, and the same will be rolled out worldwide after this first round of testing and feedback.

This is part of Facebook’s ongoing effort to develop resources for people who may be going through difficult moments in their lives. The idea behind these tools is to help people end relationships on Facebook with greater ease, comfort and sense of control.

Well, the break-up tool surely is a great idea. Thanks Facebook!
