Fire Breaks Out in Cuffe Parade’s Maker Tower in Mumbai, 2 Dead

Eight fire tenders and six water tankers have been rushed to the spot.

A major fire broke out at the 20th floor of the Maker Tower at Cuffe Parade area in Mumbai on Tuesday, reported ANI.

Two people have been reportedly killed in the incident and 11 people were rescued from the building. Eight fire tenders and six water tankers have been rushed to the spot.

The blaze was said to be in control, a senior official from the fire brigade said.

The flat that was gutted in the fire belonged to Shekhar Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Electricals. An officer from the fire brigade said that some family members of Bajaj family and domestic help were stuck in the flat but everyone had been rescued without injury.

Noted writer-columnist Shobhaa De, who also resides in the building, said, “The fire personnel did a fantastic job. They handled it very efficiently and contained it quickly... it could have been much much worse.”

“Two lives were lost...This is a great wake up call for everybody. Anybody who lives in a high-rise in Mumbai needs to be aware of hazards,” she said.

Fire officials said all the residents of the building have been evacuated.

The incident comes just a day after a massive fire hit the Bhubaneswar hospital, which claimed 22 lives.
