On 21 Septemeber, the met department’s 10-day forecast of torrential rainfall in Telangana began. Amidst numbers, daily updates and well, continuous rainfall in Mumbai, the city with the reputation of being rained in, justice has not been done to the current situation in Hyderabad and other parts of the state.

So, here’s a social media tour of what it’s like in Telangana right now; a virtual tour, of sorts. Heads up: It’s bad.

Still don’t believe us? This was within the first half hour of the rains beginning.

One of the worst hit places in Ranga Reddy district has been Nizampet, also known as the ‘IT corridor’ of Hyderabad. It has been crushed by severe water-logging in the last week.

Did we talk about the flow of the flood water? Authorities on Sunday sounded flood alert in Telangana as the water level is rising in the Godavari river due to huge inflows following heavy rains.

Four columns of the Army have been deployed in Hyderabad and neighbouring Randa Reddy district and a National Disaster Response team (NDRF) has been stationed in the capital, as well.

Until now, eight people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents, mostly by drowning.

Even celebrities from Tollywood and neighbouring Kollywood have come forward to do their bit, providing funds for relief or spreading important information amongst their large fan bases, or in some cases, going out into the city to distribute relief materials themselves.
