Every restaurant owner loves a good tip, seen as it is as a sign that the visitor enjoyed his meal. So, the owner of an Indian restaurant in Northern Ireland must have been unbelievably happy – and maybe even shocked – when a customer recently left a very generous tip of £1,000 (around Rs 83,000) for a £79 (Rs 6,500) bill.
Chef Babu was called over discreetly by the customer who was one of the five from the dining party, and given the tip for excellent food and service, as reported by Portadown Times.
The tipper is from Portadown but lives abroad for business purposes, said Luna Ekush, who bought the restaurant, Indian Tree, 16 months ago.
Whenever he comes home every few months and lands at the airport, he phones to see if Babu is cooking and comes here for his first meal with his wife. The night he left the tip, he told Babu that words weren’t enough to express his appreciation of the food and so he wanted to leave the money as a gift.Luna Ekush
Later, the man also sent an email to Ekush.
Luna, who used to work in England before shifting to Northern Ireland, said it was the biggest tip they had ever received. She added that it was a big boost for Babu and said the credit for it all went to him.
He is the selling point for the restaurant. It is a big boost for him, and the rest of us.
