With the arrival of monsoon in the city, dengue has already claimed a life in Mumbai.

An 11-year-old boy from Santa Cruz died of suspected dengue on 13 June at a city hospital.

The boy, who was hospitalised on 10 June, is the first victim of this deadly disease this year in the city.

The school principal had posted about his death on social networking site on 14 June stating that he passed away ‘owing to a rare case of dengue shock’ as per a report by Hindustan Times.

As per the report, the school is sure that the boy was not infected in the school, but the authorities are taking extra precaution to spread awareness about dengue and the dangers of having stagnant, untreated pools of water – especially during the monsoons.

In 2016, dengue had claimed five lives in Mumbai.
