Shashi Kapoor’s Reaction on Winning Phalke Award- “Who me?”

Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Shashi Kapoor couldn’t accept the award in person but has humbly dedicated it to his fans

Shashi Kapoor has been honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema.

Since his acting debut in the 60s, his career has been studded with countless awards. While his family is ecstatic about his latest achievement, his daughter Sanjna Kapoor says her father always found satisfaction in what he created. He was lucky to be surrounded by people who valued and respected his work and Sanjna feels that it meant more to him than awards.

One never took awards very seriously in my family. We all are very irreverent that way.

Sanjna Kapoor does feel however that the award has come ten years too late.

He is very very frail. It’s a shame the award has come now. It would have been wonderful had it come ten years ago. But anyway, better late than never I guess, going by the way things work in this lovely country of ours. He does know that he’s got the award. He turned around and said, Who me?

Sadly the legendary actor couldn’t accept the award in person. Sanjna says that a minister is likely to arrive in Mumbai to bestow the honour on her father in person at Prithvi theatre. On Shashi Kapoor’s behalf, Sanjna dedicates the honour to all his fans around the world.
