Ram Madhvani’s Neerja, isn’t just a hit with the critics, it has won over the box-office as well. According to reports, the film has collected more than Rs 22 cr over the weekend, making it the second highest weekend opening (after Airlift) of 2016 till now. While the film opened to a modest Rs 4.70 cr collection on Friday, thanks to reviews and good word-of-mouth, the earnings jumped to Rs 7.60 cr on Saturday and Rs 9.71 cr on Sunday.
The film has been received well overseas as well having made over Rs 10 cr in the first 3 days.
While Neerja has made just half of what Airlift collected in its first weekend (Rs 44.3 cr), remember that the film’s landing cost would have been half of the Akshay Kumar-starrer too. The rave reviews and positive word-of-mouth could even ensure that the film takes in a higher collection at the box-office over the second weekend.
