Karan Johar is one of Bollywood’s biggest celebrities, but he is also at the receiving end of a lot of flak for his effeminate manner. Even so, he doesn’t let the trolls and hate get to him, as he wrote on NDTV.
Every morning, he says, he is woken up being called a “gay ma*****od”, which he has discussed at length with family, friends and even his therapist.
Being one of the earliest of tinsel town’s Twitter users, he thought he would get love and support from the online community for his work. However, he soon realised that words like “chakka” are as much a part of his day as his breakfast.
Karan has many feathers in his cap from being producer-director of a talk show host and even a reality show host. Success notwithstanding, his prancing around to music is seen as queer by many. His sexuality is questioned day after day by lonely trolls with nothing better to do.
If one were to look at his Instagram profile, it’s full of fun photos of him pouting – and peppered with homophobic comments. Rather than posting photos of his six-pack or lack thereof, he chooses to flaunt his jawline. What’s so wrong with that?
He’s even gone on to say he can no longer smile for a camera, but only pout – a condition he’s playfully termed ‘poutitis’!
After being angered by and indifferent to the hate by turns, he now finds amusement in it. He highlights how being materially blessed has nothing to do with his emotions, which could render him as lonely as the person on the other side of the screen.
But even if he were as lonely as his trolls, he is still a much nicer person by virtue of his positivity.
