If it Wasn’t for Salman ‘Sultan’ Might Not Have Had its Stud Title

Here’s how Salman came to Aditya Chopra’s rescue when it came to getting the rights to ‘Sultan’ for the film’s title

Salman Khan’s upcoming flick Sultan is likely to take the box office by storm with its EID release. But here’s something you probably didn’t know- if it wasn’t for Salman, the film would have had a different title altogether!

Rumour mills are buzzing with talk about how Salman Khan approached film producer Ramesh Taurani to buy off rights to the title. Salman seems to have worked his charms on Mr Taurani, who agreed to give away the title free of cost. When Salman handed over the same to YRF’s Aditya Chopra, the filmmaker offered to compensate Taurani. But since the producer goes back a long way with Bhai and his family, he reportedly didn’t accept even a penny. Ramesh Taurani and Salman Khan go back a long way. In 1991 Taurani gave Rs 11 Lacs as the signing amount for the music rights to Patthar Ke Phool, a film that Salman starred in at the beginning of his Bollywood career.

Salman asked Taurani for the title. He agreed to give it to him right away. Later, Aditya Chopra, the producer of Sultan, called him and offered to compensate the producer financially. But Taurani considers the Khans as family. There was no question of him accepting any money. He gave it away free of cost.

Sultan is an upcoming sports-drama directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. The film revolves around the life of Sultan Ali Khan, a professional wrestler battling problems, both in his professional and personal life. The much awaited film is set to release on July 6th, 2015.
