Akshay Kumar is on a roll. This year couldn’t have started on a better note for the Baby star, who is basking in the success of Airlift, besides getting ready for his Tamil cinema debut with superstar Rajinikanth’s 2.o, in which he plays the antagonist. Now, we hear that the actor is making his Telugu film debut with the remake of the Marathi film Poshter Boyz, originally produced by actor Shreyas Talpade. Akshay is co-producing the film with Baahubali star Rana Daggubati.
“Rana felt Akshay should play a cameo in the film. Since both of them are producing the film, they’re planning to join hands for brief performances. It’ll be very small roles. Akshay is quite excited about the offer, however he’s yet to officially agree to play the part,” a source said.
Titled Poshter Boyz in Telugu, the remake is slated to go on floors later this year. According to the source, the project was supposed to take off much earlier, but due to the packed schedules of Akshay and Rana, it had to be postponed. The film is a satirical comedy about three guys from different age groups who are trying to promote vasectomy. The humour comes from the humility they face because of what they’ve set out to do. If everything goes as planned, the film may go on floors around June this year. This is not Akshay’s first film as a producer in regional cinema. In 2013 the actor produced the Marathi film 72 Miles - Ek Pravas, and more recently he bankrolled Gauri Karekar Sarwate’s Antar.
Meanwhile, Akshay will start filming for 2.o from March. Calling it an honour to be working alongside Rajinikanth in a recent interview, Akshay said he’d love to be roughed up by the superstar. In the film, Akshay and Rajinikanth will lock horns over Amy Jackson, who plays the female protagonist.
