Karan Johar: Mr Khambata
He is an actor’s dream director and everybody wants a role in his film, if not a role even a cameo is a big deal. Karan Johar is one of Bollywood’s most wanted filmmakers. But what happens when he is in front of the camera? Well that only Anurag Kashyap knows. As KJo makes his debut as an actor in ‘Bombay Velvet’ we take a look at directors who’ve been bitten by the acting bug.
Subhash Ghai: Mr Special Appearance
Lets start with the man who makes a special appearance in every Subhash Ghai film, yes Ghai himself. The man who came to Bollywood wanting to be an actor and never got a big break, lived his dream of being on camera by making Hitchcockian appearances in his own films.
Anurag Kashyap: The Funny Man
Anurag Kashyap is an accomplished director, a poster boy for alternate indie cinema and a celebrated filmmaker in the international film festival circuit. But there sure is an actor hidden inside Anurag who rears his head from time to time. He’s made appearances in films like Shagrid and I Am, and was totally hilarious as the arty filmmaker in Luck By Chance.
Tigmanshu Dhulia: Acting Ka Baap
Tigmanshu Dhulia surprised us all with his performance as Ramadhir Singh in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur. In fact he was so good, that some film-buffs were debating if Tigmanshu is probably more of an actor than director. The fact that he actually holds a Master’s Degree in Theatre from the National School of Drama might have some thing to do with it.
Farah Khan: Never Again
Farah Khan started off her career as a choreographer and even made tiny appearances in her friend’s films, but it took a lot of effort and convincing for Bela Sehgal to get Farah to act in her film Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi. Farah even got a tummy tuck surgery done before shooting the film. And after all that, she took an oath she to never act again. Thank God for that!
Kunal Kohli: Work In Progress!
Make way for a new actor in B-town - filmmaker Kunal Kohli. After hits like Hum Tum and Fanaa, Kunal hit a rough patch with Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic and Teri Meri Kahaani. We guess since the director couldn’t get any A-lister to sign on as a hero for a new project, he decided to give it a shot himself! His romantic comedy Phir Se is slated to release later this year.
