Actor Irrfan Khan has reached out to thank the media for giving him space to deal with his recent illness and recovery in private. The actor was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour last year. In a note, the Hindi Medium actor acknowledged everyone’s curiosity surrounding his illness and the hiatus he took from Bollywood during which he sought treatment in London. He explained that while he is willing to discuss the subject, he is still trying to come to terms with his illness himself and “taking baby steps to merge my healing with work”.
“Last few months have been on a road to recovery a period to heal to fight the fatigue and face the reel and real world. I am aware of your concern and request to talk to you, share my journey, but I am fathoming it myself inhaling and internalising, taking baby steps to merge my healing with work and trying to experiment the amalgamation of both.I am deeply touched by your wishes, your prayers and it means a lot for me and my family. I truly respect the way you respected my journey giving me time and space to heal. Thank you for your patience and the warmth and the love all through this overwhelming journey,” he wrote.
He ended his note with a quote from poet Rainer Maria Rilke: “I feel an urge to share with you something. I live my life in widening rings which spread over earth and sky. I may not ever complete the last one, but that is what I will try. I circle around God’s primordial tower, and I circle ten thousand years long; And I still don’t know if I’m a falcon, a storm, or an unfinished song” - Rilke
Irrfan is currently shooting for Angrezi Medium, a sequel to 2017’s Hindi Medium. The actor essays the role of a sweet shop owner in the film and Radhika Madan plays his daughter who wishes to pursue higher education in the UK. Kareena Kapoor and Pankaj Tripathi also feature in the film and play a police officer and a travel agent, respectively. Angrezi Medium is being directed by Homi Adajania and produced by Dinesh Vijan.
