Ekta Kapoor was among the several celebrities who mourned the demise of former External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj who passed away in Delhi on 6 August after suffering cardiac arrest. She took to Twitter to pay tribute to Swaraj saying that the former Foreign minister taught her her first lesson - women should help women grow.

She recalled how Swaraj had shaped her in her youth and tweeted, “In my younger years, I got so much support from Sushma ji! I still have pictures with her giving me my first award all over my office! Gutted sad at the loss of a lady who taught me my first lesson. women should help women grow! Thank you and R.I.P. Sushma ji.”

Several Bollywood celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Anurag Kashyap and Shabana Azmi remembered her contribution as a Union minister and condoled her death on social media. Earlier Bigg Boss 12 contestant Karanvir Bohra recollected how Swaraj helped him secure a temporary passport when he was detained by authorities at Moscow in January.
