It was on 29th April 1988 that a bunch of newcomers brought in a new wave of romance and music in Bollywood with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. The film directed by debutant Mansoor Khan had Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla in the lead and redefined romance for an entire generation for film-goers. But did you know that:

The 1st Day of QSQT Shoot was Cancelled

The makers were supposed to shoot the song sequence of Gazab Ka Hai Din on the first day, but due to poor weather conditions the eight-hour-long schedule in the jungle had to be cancelled. The anxious newcomer Aamir Khan was reportedly quite disheartened with the false start to his innings as an actor.

Juhi Chawla Made a Smart Choice

Juhi Chawla was offered the role of Draupadi in BR Chopra’s mega television series Mahabharat at the same time as the offer to star as the lead in QSQT came about. She luckily turned down Chopra’s Draupadi offer and chose to play Rashmi in QSQT  instead.

Meet the Actor and PR of QSQT: Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan was not just the actor in the film, he was also in charge of the publicity for it. He went across the city requesting rickshaw drivers to paste the movie’s poster on their autos. While some didn’t mind, others refused, asking who Aamir Khan is. Well then came the big marketing idea, one of the hoardings of the film only said, “Who is Aamir Khan?.... Ask the girl next door”, creating a lot of curiosity around the new actor.

Happy Ending Vs Sad Ending

Director Mansoor Khan’s father and producer of QSQT, Nasir Hussain, was dead against the tragic climax in the film. He wanted Mansoor to change the script and end it with a ‘Raj and Rashmi lived happily ever after’ note. But Mansoor Khan stuck to his decision ended the film with the couple dying in each other’s arms, making the film an evergreen classic.
