After recording a box-office high, Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju is back in the news. Gangster Abu Salem has sent legal notices to the makers of the film stating that the Sanjay Dutt biopic shows incorrect information about Salem and thereby defames him. According to a report in Times of India, Salem has problems with the scene where Dutt recounts how he was supplied with arms and ammunition before the Mumbai blasts of 1993.

“The scene where Ranbir Kapoor (pictured as Sanjay Dutt) gives a confessional statement about possession of arms and ammunition during communal tension around our country in 1993, is defaming my client (Salem), as my client never supplied the arms and ammunition, as alleged to Sanjay Dutt, as pictured in the film,” the notice said.

The notice also states that Salem has never met Dutt. The legal notice sent to Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and others also says that the contents of Sanju are “extremely insinuating, disparaging and defamatory attacking the reputation of Salem”.

Abu Salem not only wants an apology from the makers of Sanju for the scene but also wants that the scene should be cut from the film within 15 days of the receipt of the legal notice. Salem has threatened to take legal action against the makers if they fail to abide by his demands. Abu Salem, who was convicted for his involvement in the 1993 Bombay serial blasts case, is currently in jail serving a life sentence.
