Amitabh Bachchan’s public letter to his granddaughters garnered quite a few responses. However, the one most valuable to him was probably his elder granddaughter Navya Naveli’s who said she would “exactly” follow it.
At an event for his latest film Pink, Amitabh Bachchan said:
I got an immediate reaction from Navya and she said, ‘Nanu, I will exactly follow this’.
On his daughter and Navya’s mother, Shweta’s reaction to the letter, he said:
My daughter said, ‘I have been trying to teach Navya for so many years and just through one letter, you have conveyed what I wanted to for so many years’. That had an immediate impact.
In the letter, Bachchan senior attempted to impart valuable life lessons to his granddaughters Navya Naveli Nanda (Shweta and Nikhil Nanda’s daughter) and Aaradhya Bachchan (Abhishek and Aishwarya’s daughter).
Was the Letter Just a Promotional Gimmick? Bachchan Answers
In light of his latest release Pink, people wondered if the much-publicised letter was just a promotional gimmick. To this, Amitabh Bachchan said:
You can look at it the way you want to. Let me tell you how we arrived at it. While we were promoting the film, there were many interviews that we did and each one were wanting to know what is ‘Pink’. We were unable to describe the content of the story without disclosing the story line because it was a thriller.
Pink’s co-producer Shoojit Sircar suggested that a letter to his granddaughters would not only be a “nice gesture” but would help Bachchan communicate the “essence of the film” without actually “revealing the story”.
It worked as a good promotional device, but you know, promotional activity is a wide term. The letter was emotional. It addressed all daughters and granddaughters and I had such an immediate reaction from my own daughter and granddaughter.Amitabh Bachchan
Pink, which was released on Friday, has garnered a very positive response at the box office. A must-watch, the movie raises questions on the stigmas and stereotypes attached to women.
