The Lok Sabha elections are the talk of the moment, as the nation votes to decide who will form the next government. So how does the voter decide? The Quint's Sanjay Pugalia spoke to Santosh Desai, a consumer behaviour and advertising and media expert, about this and more.
Desai said that most people have usually decided for sure whether they will vote or not. But there are still many people who are unsure because they aren't happy with the BJP but also cannot decide who else could run the government.
“They’re not happy with how BJP government is performing. But, they think on the other side, there’s the Mahagathbandhan chaos. Who will run the government? These are the issues one usually hears,” Desai said.
His advice in such situations is to think about the worst case scenario. What will be the worst-case scenario if BJP comes to power? What if the Opposition comes to power? Then ask yourself, ‘what is the thing that you want to prevent from happening,’ he said.
The two things that are fundamentally wrong that can be issues are that on one hand, the country's social fabric is being destroyed and that institutions are in danger. On the other hand, one family was running the country, promoting corruption. Therefore, the voter can go either way, Desai said.
However, one fundamental question will clear up the confusion, which is that of asking where the main threat to the country is coming from. Only the answer to this question can help the voter decide which side to choose, Desai said.
