1. SP-BSP-RLD Is ‘Sharab’ That Will Destroy You: Modi in Meerut

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, 28 March, said that the SP-BSP-RLD alliance in Uttar Pradesh is like sharaab (alcohol) that will destroy the people.

He was addressing a rally in Meerut ahead of the general elections. The SP-BSP-RLD have formed a pre-poll alliance in the state to defeat the ruling BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

“‘Sa’ for SP, ‘Ra’ for RLD and ‘Ba’ for BSP together make ‘Sharaaba’. This sharaab (alcohol) will destroy you,” he said.

Attacking Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav, Modi also said that they hadn’t written him a single letter for building roads in Meerut.

“I would have been happy if Behenji (Mayawati) had written to me about the need for construction of roads in Meerut, and Akhilesh Yadav would have written to me about housing for poor, but they never did so,” he said.

2. After BJP Snub, Shatrughan Sinha Says Will Join Congress Soon

Disgruntled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Shatrughan Sinha is likely to join the Congress party on 6 April after he was denied a ticket from Patna Sahib by the BJP.

Sinha met Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, 28 March, and speaking to the media after the meet, he said, “Joining will happen soon, we will give you positive news during Navratri.”

The development comes after the saffron party gave Union Minister Ravi Shankar a ticket instead of Sinha, who is a sitting MP from the seat.

Sinha has been a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and his governance.

3. SC Refuses Urgent Hearing of Plea Seeking Stay on ‘Ram ki Janmabhoomi’

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused urgent hearing in a plea seeking stay on release of the movie Ram ki Janmabhoomi alleging it will prejudice the mediation process in the Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid case.

Posting the matter for hearing after two weeks, the SC bench of Justices SA Bobde and S Abdul Nazeer said, "What’s the relation between movie and mediation? Parties want to settle it. We are not so pessimistic. No film can come in the way of mediation.”

4. SP Leader Makes Derogatory Remarks Against Jaya Prada

SP leader from UP’s Sambhal on Thursday, 28 March, made derogatory remarks against actor-politician Jaya Prada, who recently joined the BJP.

SP leader Firoz Khan said that the political atmosphere will become ‘rangeen’ (colourful) in UP’s Rampur, from where Prada will be contesting.
