A day after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jayakaran Gupta allegedly referred to Congress General Secretary (East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as ‘skirt wali bai’, the Indian Civil Liberties Union (ICLU) on Wednesday, 3 April, filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India calling it a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
In its complaint the ICLU has said that the comments made by BJP leader “violates the clause (2) of the general conduct”.
Addressing a public rally in Meerut, Gupta said, “One Congress leader asks about about ‘acche din’. He can’t see it...Skirt wali bai has starting going to the temple wearing sari, those who used to avoid the gangajal (holy water) are now consuming it.”
However, after outrage, the leader said, “I didn’t make the comment at anyone.” But added “you need to see who fits under that description.”
