#IndiaDefeatsBlackMoney may have been a fake trend; one that was engineered by a few people to counter all the bad publicity that the government has been facing post demonetisation.

For those who can’t make much sense of this, here’s the deal.

According to an article in FactorDaily, it’s a possibility that social media influencers were paid to Tweet with the hashtag and make it trend. The article says that a prominent Twitter influencer has revealed that many were “offered” money to make the hashtag popular; a way to camouflage all the negative feedback that the move has received.

Of Note Ban and Paid Tweets

FactorDaily went on to assert that while the exact people who offered the money could not be “immediately ascertained”, there is a clear “Maharashtra angle to it.”

“The influencers have been asked to tag @narendramodi @arunjaitley @Dev_Fadnavis in the tweets – the Twitter handles of PM Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, and Maharashtra Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis,” the report adds.

A Comprehensive Directive

The FactorDaily article also says that influencers are specifically told to “share positive effects of demonetisation”. While communicating to the influencers, it was also made clear that the person can modify “sample tweets.” The directive also comes with a timetable and set of warnings, including the fact that spamming should be avoided.

The sample tweets doing the rounds range from discussing how the note ban “has brought Kashmir unrest to a halt” to “how it will give a fillip to the economy.”

The article concluded with the fact that although they do not know the amount paid to these influencers, it could “typically be a two-digit sum” per tweet.
