After having accused the Pakistan cricket team of fixing matches in the ongoing Champions Trophy, former cricketer Aamer Sohail retracted his allegations on 16 June.

While speaking to a Pakistan news channel earlier this week, Sohail said:

Safraz Ahmed needs to be told that he hasn’t done anything great, that someone has helped him win these matches.

While he refused to name his "sources", Sohail said that Pakistan reached the final because someone had helped the team. Pakistan, on Wednesday, beat England to reach the Trophy’s final for the first time in the tournament’s history.

On 16 June, however, Sohail went back on his word and said that the byte of him making the allegations was “made before the semi-final” against India and were not relevant anymore.

Reacting to the former cricketer’s statement, PCB Spokesperson Emmad Hameed told News18:

Pakistan cricket fans were deeply upset by Aamir Sohail’s comment on Sarfaraz Ahmed.
