Prasoon Joshi to Replace Pahlaj Nihalani as CBFC Chief

Vidya Balan to join CBFC as well.

Pahlaj Nihalani has been removed from his position as CBFC chief. He is reportedly being replaced by lyricist and screenwriter Prasoon Joshi.

There were of course rumours floating around in the last few weeks around the possibility of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting considering putting an end to the controversy-ridden regime of Nihalani.

According to earlier reports, filmmakers Prakash Jha, Madhur Bhandarkar and TV Producer-actor Chandraprakash Dwivedi were among the names reportedly being considered as his replacement. But Joshi, a respected name in the industry, comes as a complete surprise.

What’s more, Vidya Balan is all set to join CBFC as a member as well.

Ever since Nihalani took up the position in 2015, it has been an age of bans and cuts in Indian cinema. And goes without saying, neither the industry nor movie enthusiasts were happy. The latest in the path of his ambush was the critically acclaimed film Lipstick Under My Burkha.
