Donald Trump, now the President of the United States, made mention of a “beautiful letter” left by Barack Obama as he took charge at the Oval Office.
Speaking at a swearing-in ceremony for the top appointees in his administration, Trump said “It was really nice of him to do that and we will cherish that”, as he held up a white envelope.
He added that he would keep the letter and not tell the press what it says.
It has been an American Presidential tradition for an outgoing President to leave a letter for their successor on the desk of the Oval Office.
Generally a short letter offering the successor advice, the content of these letters are kept secret for years. Only last week, the US National Archives released the letter of former President George W Bush to Obama when he took office.
