The students of Delhi University’s Hindu College seem to have taken absurdism a bit too far. On Valentine’s day every year, to help out the bachelor desperados, college students conduct a Damdami mai puja. This puja is believed to help male students lose their virginities (brain explodes!).

Every year a Bollywood actress is chosen as the ‘goddess’ of the year. This year, Tiger Shroff’s rumoured girlfriend Disha Patani is the lucky one. The students also place condoms on a ‘virgin’ tree as a part of their absurd ritual. Speaking to The Times Of India , a student of the esteemed college had quite a bit to say.

Damdami Mai is usually the actress who has been popular in that particular year and who is also voted for by most male hostellers. Like always, we will have the puja on the morning of February 14 and a fresher will perform it, as he will be made the pandit for that day. As always, condoms will be used to decorate the Virgin Tree.

I’m not quite sure if this is a sarcastic take on Valentine’s day or a ragging session.

The second and third-year hostellers have chosen her (Disha Patani). We picked her after having a meeting. Along with Disha, one name that was also considered was Nargis Fakhri. But since most of the guys liked Disha, we have chosen her as our Damdami Mai.

It is surprising because on the one hand, female students are bound by campus etiquette and college rules that dictate what they should wear and how late they can stay out, while on the other hand, male students are given a free hand to create this embodiment of lust. This raises the obvious question: What is Hindu College doing to ‘protect’ their male student population? Free psychological counselling, maybe?
