Sharmaji, why don’t you focus on promoting Indian diversity, and not tell women what they should or shouldn’t wear?

In today’s edition of stupid things our minister say: Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma says women tourists visiting India should not wear skirts.

He says they should also not step outside alone at night. Aisa karne se unka rape nahi hoga. (This will make sure you don’t get raped.)

Sharmaji will be issuing advisory pamphlets to foreign lady tourists with all the Do’s and Dont’s of ‘Indian culture’.

Pehle toh, Sharmaji, if you can ask women to stop wearing skirts, why not ask men to stop raping women?

Matlab Indian culture mein agar skirts nahi hai, toh rape bhi to nahi hai (If short skirts are not part of Indian culture, neither are rapes.)

And can we get a copy of these pamphlets?

Apart from skirts, is there an advisory against saris and lehengas? Kyonki un mein mid-riff dikhta hai (The mid-riff shows in them too).

So, is that okay or not?

Seriously, Sharmaji, is ogling at foreigners a part of our culture? Believe me they don’t get stared at just because of skirts.

And surely sir, in today’s day and age, can’t we expect our ministers to stop victim-blaming?

Women are often raped when they go out of their homes to relieve themselves. What would be your advisory for them? What about rape victims aged 3 and 4 — do they wear provocative clothes?

Mr Minister, here’s an advisory for you: Concentrate on celebrating India’s cultural diversity and focus on promoting THAT and just that.
