Unidentified miscreants tore as many as twenty pages of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib installed in a Gurdwara at Baath village in Tarn Taran district, sparking protests in the region.

Meanwhile Sikh groups staged demonstrations and blocked roads at several places in protest against police action against protesting Sikhs and sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Protestors had blocked Amritsar-Ferozpur at Harike Patan town that remained closed.

Reacting to the incident, the Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh said that regular incidents of disrespect to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib were unfortunate and highly condemnable.

He said Sikh clerics had already warned the administration to take stern measures after pages of Sri Guru Granth Sahib were found scattered in Bargari village.
