Millions of Muslims around the world marked the start of the month of Ramzan on Monday. In India too the sighting of the moon brought cheer and piety. Ramzan, is a month of intense prayer, dawn-to-dusk fasting and nightly feasts.

On Tuesday, streets of cities like Delhi, Bhopal and Chennai were teeming with the devout who were out to have their morning ‘sehri’ or the sustenance meal before the dawn-to-dusk fast begins.

Evenings are set to be an array of festive delights with family and friends as ‘Iftar’ time nears and many also routinely send out food to the poor, in charity.

Here’s what we witnessed on the streets as Muslims and others alike told us about the shared joy of following in the steps of the great Prophet Mohammad who is said to have been handed the Quran on this day and month nearly 1400 years ago.
