Muzaffar Ahmad Khan, a class three student in Jammu and Kashmir, was unhappy after he got low marks in a written exam because he couldn’t meet the word limit.
Enter a pen that can count the number of words as you write with it!
In my last exam, I got minimum marks as I wrote fewer words. It made me restless and from that very time, I started thinking of inventing something which can save my time and finally the idea of a ‘counting pen’ struck my mind.Muzaffar Ahmad Khan, Inventor
A casing is attached to the pen’s rear. Once someone starts writing, the casing keeps a word count, which is displayed on a small LCD monitor on the pen.
A prototype of the pen has been kept on display at the Festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, organised by National Innovation Foundation (NIF), an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
At the festival, President Ram Nath Kovind heaped words of appreciation and rewarded young Muzaffar for his innovation.
Muzzafar’s family was extremely proud of his innovation and said that there must be many such kids in Jammu and Kashmir whom the teachers and the government must extend support and attention to.
The pen is supposed to help students during their exams when they have to maintain a word count of essays and long-form questions.
Muzaffar told ANI that the counting pen will be available in the market from May as NIF has already decided to make it commercially available.
