Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) had to cancel two papers of the ‘Mains’ examination after wrong papers were distributed at a centre in Allahabad. The incident took place on 19 June. The mix-up occurred when question papers for essay writing were distributed in place of General Hindi. The essay writing paper was supposed to be held at 2 pm while the Hindi paper was scheduled for the morning.
The students demanded cancellation of the papers and protested against the officials. “We demand that the administration cancel the main exams,” said Bajrangi Singh, a UPPSC aspirant. He added that leak of papers has been going on since 2015.
The UPPSC issued a notification later stating that the two papers in question have been cancelled. The notification declared that the rescheduled date for the papers will be announced soon. It also stated that the other papers will be held as per schedule.
Former UP CM and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav attacked the Yogi government over the issue. In a tweet slamming the government, Akhilesh said that the paper leak was a symbol of the government’s failure. He added that the government and administration were themselves unprepared to deal with the issue while they expected students to be prepared for the exams in less than a month.
The UPPSC exams have been mired in controversy. The dates of the exams were changed repeatedly from March to May and then June 2018. Many students had requested UP CM Yogi Adityanath to reschedule the exams to give them adequate time for preparation.
