Speaking at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the Indian diaspora for supporting demonetisation.
PM Modi said that those opposing the note ban were "political worshippers" of graft and black money, which had adversely impacted the economy and polity.
He said his government had taken up 'a big fight' against corruption and black money, which had been gradually making India’s politics, society and administration "hollow".
PM Modi congratulated the overseas Indian community for their “invaluable contribution” to the Indian community.
Referring to the earlier trend of brain drain, he said: "We want to change brain drain to brain gain". He also announced plans to unveil a skill development programme – the 'Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojna' – for Indian youth seeking employment abroad.
He said that the security and welfare of Indians residing overseas is the top priority of government and said that his government hoped to provide all facilities to Indians seeking economic opportunities abroad.
